The entertainment industry was put on hold this year in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, but TV productions are slowly returning to normal. From the set of NCIS season 18, Nick Torres star Wilmer Valderrama took to his Instagram page with a brief glimpse at a massive episode for the CBS series.

The 17th season of CBS’ action drama NCIS kicked off last year, but was cut short by four episodes amid the outbreak of coronavirus back in March.

Fans have been waiting months for new episodes, and the team finally managed to return to set in September.

While season 17 was prematurely wrapped up with its de facto finale in April, new instalments are set to rollover onto the start of season 18.

Leroy Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon), the recently returned Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) and the rest of the NCIS team will finally return to screens on Tuesday, November 17.

Also among them is Special Agent Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), who has become a firm fan favourite since his introduction in season 14.

The mysterious former undercover operative is set to play a significant role when NCIS returns next month.

Valderrama has already confirmed the new slate will finally delve into Torres’ shady past from before he joined the current team.

Meanwhile, his biggest fans are still calling for his much-teased romance with fellow agent Eleanor Bishop (Emily Wickersham) to take the next step.

As the hype continues to build for NCIS’ thrilling return to screens, Valderrama posted some tantalising new updates on his personal Instagram page.

Speaking to his 1.8 million followers, the TV star gave a brief overview of season 18’s current production stage.

Taking a break from filming, he said: “I feel very fortunate to be on set right now.”

Although most major television projects were postponed to halt the spread of COVID-19, shows like NCIS have put extensive health and safety measures in place in an attempt to return to their regular schedule.

Valderrama continued: “So many of my colleagues are unfortunately not on set. Not a lot of shooting right now, but everyone’s trying to get back to normal.”

As production of NCIS already runs concurrently with its broadcast on CBS, there may be more midseason breaks than usual to accommodate season 18’s unprecedented filming conditions.

He continued: “Everyone’s trying to get back into our industry, getting episodes and getting content and films, hopefully, back into your homes.”

Thankfully, the upcoming season of NCIS won’t be short changing its audience out of its usual action-packed adventures despite the pandemic.

The star teased: “We’re shooting a big episode right now. Our episodes are bigger than ever this season.”

“So I’m proud of that. I’m excited to show you guys some more stuff. I’ll give you guys a sneak peak.”

Valderrama then flipped his phone camera around to reveal a sizable lot with what looks like two fire engines parked on set.

The star signed off with a huge hint: “Yeah, something big happens in this episode. Can’t tell you much, but I can’t wait for you guys to enjoy it.”

CBS’ flagship action series is certainly no stranger to massive set pieces, so the engines could be called to the scene of a major disaster within an upcoming episode.

NCIS returns with season 18 on Tuesday, November 17 on CBS.
