Jimmy Palmer (played by Brian Dietzen) hasn’t exactly had the easiest of time over the past few seasons on NCIS. From the death of his wife Breena (Michelle Pierce) to being held hostage with Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover), the CBS drama’s resident medical expert has tried to keep a brave face through challenge after challenge. However, with season 19 now in full swing and Gibbs’ (Mark Harmon) hunt for a serial killer underway, the team find themselves at the centre of danger once more – although episode three looks like it will be old demons which haunt Jimmy.

In Road to Nowhere, which airs on CBS on October 4, the synopsis teases “Gibbs and Alden Parker (Gary Cole) go on a road trip to find one of the serial killer’s victims.

“Also, Agent Knight (Katrina Law) goes undercover at a large manufacturing company with ties to the murders.”

While the CBS plot may not delve into the details of Jimmy’s upcoming struggles, actor Dietzen shared a sneak peek from the episode to his Instagram page over the weekend.

And it looks like Jimmy is going to struggle with the memories of the horrific hostage situation he and Kasie found themselves in back in season 17 when a diamond heist went drastically wrong and landed the pair in danger.

Given the events of season 19, episode two in which Kasie was held hostage once more by Lamere (Jason Wiles), it looks like the horrific memories of the diner hostage situation will plague Jimmy once more.

In the first look from Monday’s episode, Jimmy is shown being overprotective of his colleague as he tries to read her blood pressure to check she’s okay.

“Jimmy!” Kasie snaps as Jimmy continues to pace around her. He replies: “Your blood pressure’s still a little high, your pulse is fine but let me check your pupils again.”

“Hey, hey! I need to work,” Kasie protests but Jimmy stands firm: “Kasie, you were taken hostage alright? Lamere had a knife -“

“Letter opener,” Kasie interjects as Jimmy continues: “Letter opener to your throat, alright? It was a traumatic situation.

“You could be suffering from shock, from PTSD -“ Jimmy continues to worry before Kasie snaps: “Or from you annoying me?”

Jimmy looks stunned as Kasie continues: “I have told you a thousand times, I will be fine. I have been through worse.

“We have been through worse,” Kasie adds, referring to the hostage situation in the diner.

Jimmy shuts Kasie’s protests down as he says: “Yeah but we worked through that. I mean, yes we were taken hostage,

“And sure one of them died and they forced me to open his stomach and retrieve diamonds… from his intestines,” Jimmy continues – although he soon becomes flustered.

Struggling to keep composure, Jimmy begins to stutter before asking: “Is it hot in here?

“No, you know, I’m going to sit down,” Jimmy adds before Kasie smirks and hands him the blood pressure reader.

While Kasie takes Jimmy’s reaction with a bit of humour, it’s clear Jimmy is still struggling when he recalls the events of the diner hostage scene.

Could this hint at further struggles for Jimmy to come, particularly if he were to be diagnosed with PTSD?

If more hostage situations arise in season 19, Jimmy could well find himself struggling to deal with the trauma he experienced firsthand with constant reminders.

NCIS season 19 airs Mondays on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
