NCIS fans have been eagerly waiting for the return of the CBS crime drama since it went off the air back in April. However, now the show’s 18th season has been confirmed and it will see a major character return – here’s all you need to know about this.

Has a major character’s return been confirmed in NCIS season 18?

CBS has now confirmed the first episode of NCIS season 18 will be released on November 17.

This comes after a long wait for fans following the seventh season being cut short amid delays caused by coronavirus COVID-19.

However, things will finally be back to normal as Leroy Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) returns.

They’ll be solving crimes once again and CBS has even teased a bit about what to expect from the season premiere.

Earlier this year, it was announced the first episode would feature a time jump back to the season 17 episode Musical Chairs.

As viewers might recall, this episode saw Gibbs disappear for the majority of the outing before returning with a black eye.

Now it will finally be revealed what this was all about in the premiere of the new season.

And it seems a major character from a previous outing will also be involved in what happened.

The official synopsis reads: “Gibbs and Fornell (Joe Spano) attempt to track down the leader of a drug ring who supplied drugs to Fornell’s daughter.

“Also, the team deals with the case of a missing cadaver from the NCIS autopsy room.”

The new episode will finally resolve the storyline which began in the season 16 finale and saw Fornell’s daughter Emily (Juliette Angelo) have a drug overdose.

This puts Gibbs and Fornell on the path of trying to find out who supplied her with the drugs.

Speaking to TV Insider, executive producer Steven Binder explained a bit more about what viewers can expect from the reunion.

He told the publication: “They bring different energies to this chase.

“Gibbs has a bug up his butt about breaking the law and causing all sorts of chaos in communities with the drug situation.

“Fornell’s daughter has been hurt by this epidemic, so he’s a little more fiery.”

The publication has also confirmed the storyline will run for a total of five episodes in the new series.

But while Gibbs is distracted by this, the team will be continuing to deal with other cases.

Then in episode five, both storylines will collide as the rest of the NCIS team gets involved.

Binder continued: “Gibbs is working on the side on this thing until it comes to the forefront. Then he can’t hide it anymore.”

NCIS season 18 returns to CBS on November 17, 2020.
