LOVE Island star Curtis Pritchard has admitted he piled on the pounds during his stint on the ITV2 series.

The pro dancer, 23, blamed his lack of core exercise but insists he has no regrets about overeating in the villa.

Asked how his body compared to other male contestants, he said: “All the other lads were in incredible shape, I like to go up and down.

“When I’m dancing I’m up, when I’m enjoying myself I like to eat food.”

On gaining weight, he said: I’m not going to lie – I probably gained a couple of pounds. I won’t deny that at all but I enjoyed it, that’s the thing.

“It’s the first time I’ve just been myself.”

Partner Maura Higgins, 28, added that Curtis was “only human” and “it’s natural we all gain weight and lose weight.”

But she couldn’t resist ribbing the dancer.

Asked if he was as “beefcakey” as the others, she responded: “More like cheesecakey.”

The pair, who finished in fourth place, are looking forward to life outside the villa and are already planning their first date.

Maura said: “I want to do something high adrenalin, fun and exciting.”

Curtis added. “I really want to take Maura racing or drifting – but if not that we’ll go bowling.”

Meanwhile Love Island bosses slammed viewers for "bodyshaming" Curtis after it was reported he had gained so much weight in the villa that he needed a whole new wardrobe.

The ballroom and Latin dancer reportedly couldn't fit into his original clothes and made a request for some bigger items.

A Love Island spokesperson told The Sun Online: "It is incredibly irresponsible that any Islander would be body-shamed in this way and we would always discourage anyone from making appearance-based comments that could be hurtful to the islanders and their families."

Their response came after the Daily Star claimed he had asked for the new wardrobe.

A source told them: "Curtis took some clothes with him and there were also outfits provided by sponsors.

"But he had to ask for some new ones because he is struggling to fit into them now."

The dancer is said to have gone up two clothes sizes while in the Spanish pad, because he has been enjoying tasty treats and unable to train.

The insider added: "Curtis normally burns off a lot of calories because he's a professional dancer, but obviously in the villa he's not been training."
