It’s been a humbling road to recovery for comedian, Kevin Hart. Following an awful car crash on September 1, 2019, he sustained many injuries that forced him to take a break from his career. Though the “Night School” star is now on the mend and looking forward to getting back to work in 2020, he admits that his life has changed a great deal because of the accident. Recently, Hart opened up on his Sirius Radio show, Laugh Out Loud, about the injuries he sustained and his road to recovery.

Though his wife assured fans that Hart was on the mend following his accident, fans weren’t truly appeased until he officially returned to the public eye and made the announcement himself. On October 30, 2019, Hart, officially broke his silence and made his first public statement since the car crash. Taking to his Instagram page, he uploaded a short, yet emotional video that showcased his recovery process.

Kevin Hart returns to Instagram with an update

The video starts with a photo of the car crash, with text overlaying it describing what happened. “September 1, 2019, I was involved in an accident, my world was changed forever,” Hart wrote. The actor also has a voice-over on the video, which chronicles the lessons he learned from the unfortunate accident. “Basically what you realize is that you’re not in control. No matter how much you think you’re in control, you’re not in control. At the end of the day, it can all be over, man,” the multi-millionaire confessed.

Hart makes his first official appearance at the 2019 People’s Choice Awards

Fortunately, for Hart and his millions of fans, he is doing well and even getting back to work. The actor made his first public appearance since the accident when he attended the People’s Choice on November 10, 2019. When he took home the award for Comedy Act of 2019, he made a compelling speech in which he referenced the car crash. “First and foremost, thank God, because I definitely don’t have to be here. Being that I am, it makes me appreciate life even more. It makes me appreciate the things that really matter: family. I want to thank my wife, my kids, who really stepped up to the plate for me,” the 40-year-old stated.

Getting candid on his Sirius Radio show, Laugh Out Loud

Though his PCA speech referenced the accident, Hart recently went into greater detail on his radio show Laugh Out Loud. Calling the car accident, “life-altering,” Hart admitted that in many ways he now feels like a completely different person. “For me, I’m a different version of myself. This ain’t got nothing to do about going to church… It’s not spiritual, spiritual is the wrong word. You’re more present. More aware… It’s all a joke until you get smacked with that real-life reality,” the comedian shared.

The car accident injuries were serious

Hart then launched into the severity of his injuries. Following the car crash, he was unable to perform even the most basic tasks for himself. “I could not fu*king move. I could not wipe my a*s…I literally I couldn’t do none of that. it makes you realize… you really are helpless. There was nothing I could do,” he admitted, sharing the desperation he felt following the accident. It’s unfortunate that Hart went through so much pain, but we’re happy he’s on the mend and getting back to doing what he does best. We wish him the best of luck as he returns to film and television in 2020.
