Dan Wootton was joined by Dawn Neesom, Tom Slater and GB News presenter Becca Hutson on his Tonight Live show to discuss Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s comments on the situation in Afghanistan. For the most part, the panel were in agreement, it was not the right time for the Duke and Duchess to speak about the crisis.

“Don’t worry guys, it’s all fine, it’s all fine because Harry and Meghan are here!” Wootton exclaimed.

“They’ll save the day, they will absolutely save the day, because there was just two people who I thought, ‘You know who I want to hear from to solve the situation in Afghanistan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, so thank God they released this statement.

“Reading, ‘The world is exceptionally fragile right now.

“As we all feel the many layers of pain due to the situation in Afghanistan, we are left speechless.

“When any person or community suffers, a piece of each of us does so with them, whether we realise it or not.

“And though we are not meant to live in a state of suffering, we, as a people, are being conditioned to accept it.

“It’s easy to find ourselves feeling powerless, but we can put our values into action – together.

“As an international community, it is the decisions we make now – to alleviate suffering among those we know and those we may never meet – that will prove our humanity.”

Wootton turned to his guest Neesom and remarked: “Dawn Neesom, what a load of nonsense.”

Shaking her head, she replied: “Don’t, don’t ask me! The amount of times they mention ‘we’ it’s not about you by the way, it’s about women and children and men who are dying in Afghanistan still.

“Look, Harry has a right to talk about this, he did service tw front line tours in Afghanistan and what he said about the ex-veterans supporting one another is right, he should say that.

“But this, and to start a statement saying, ‘We are speechless,’ and then go on talking about yourself…”

Wootton responded: “I’m sorry but they are the equivalent of the Kardashians.

“They have absolutely no formal role and I want to hear as much from Kris and Kim Kardashian, who I love by the way, on the conflict in Afghanistan as I do Harry and Meghan.

“just zip it kiddo! You have nothing to say, you have nothing to say hear. What is this about?”

Many of those watching Wootton’s show were quick to take to Twitter to comment, with many defending the couple: “Harry and Megan have a right to voice their opinions about world events, and the devastation felt. We love you Harry and Megan. Keep doing the great work you are doing.”

Another posted: “Normally I would agree. However I am interested in any Afghan veteran’s opinion.”

A third continued: “Exactly! He served there. He has a personal connection with the country. He gets to have an opinion or feeling about what has happened.”

However others weren’t impressed, writing: “Well said guys, who do they think they are? Honestly I think they are acting as if they are world leaders. They offer nothing, but tell the rest of us how we should feel and act.”

Tonight Live with Dan Wootton airs at 9pm on GB News.
