Johnny Depp was really hoping to give a proper farewell to his much-loved Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6. That’s what he told the courtroom during his libel case against ex-wife Amber Heard earlier this year. However, following allegations of domestic abuse in 2018 by her – ones which Depp strongly denies – he was dropped from the sequel by Disney. Yet now he’s won the court case, fans are ever hopeful he will finally make that big comeback. And just this week the 59-year-old has once again donned his swashbuckling costume to play the iconic part.

Since he first started playing his Oscar-nominated Captain Jack 20 years ago, Depp has occasionally made school and hospital visits in character. Most recently, for the first time in a long while, he’s reprised the role in a Make A Wish Foundation video for an 11-year-old fan who has been in palliative care.

The new footage has been shared by the boy on his YouTube channel, in which the pirate addresses him as Captain Kori. The Hollywood star appears as Captain Jack once again rambling along in his pirate’s drunken stupor.

Depp’s Captain Jack says: “So, Capt. Kori, terribly sorry I missed out on this. Meant to say it, forgot to say it, didn’t say it, gonna say it now. Saying it, I’ll say it. I hear tell of something they speak about in the ages of now called the YouTube channel, which I don’t understand, but why not?… I think it will make for a wonderful entertainment expertise momentary lapse of togetherness altogether in one space, but far apart, but then, at the same time, very close. Curious, enduring and strange.”

The video is certainly a good sign that the star hasn’t put the character behind him, but will he return in Pirates 6?

Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently shared that the script on the sixth film is currently being written. As for Depp’s involvement, he told The Sunday Times earlier this year: “Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided.”

It could well be that the new film is something of a spin-off before a potential cameo with the Captain Jack actor? And if not this outing, perhaps one afterwards? During his libel case, the star said he wouldn’t come back to work with Disney, yet time heals and he knows his fans are desperate to see more of the character.
