Fans are still reeling over the bombshell turn-of-events that took place in the How to Get Away with Murder midseason finale for the sixth and final season.
And though one of their own was revealed to be a mole, if you look at this history of the character in the show so far, then you know that Asher Millstone (Matt McGorry) was always destined to be disloyal.
Asher was never part of the original group
While he became a part of what we now know as the “Keating 5,” Asher was the only character that was not actually initially in the group. The “Keating 4”: Michaela (Aja Naomi King), Connor (Jack Falahee), Wes (Alfred Enoch), and Laurel (Karla Souza), initially detested Asher for his privileged attitude and childish behavior.
Asher was also not present for the murder of Sam Keating and did not know about his death until later in the series.
Asher is the only Keating 5 to commit intentional murder
While Annalise (Viola Davis) is truly the old cast member who is in no way responsible for a murder, Asher is the only main/original cast member (besides Frank and Bonnie) to intentionally commit murder. The murder of Sam by the Keating 5 was part accidental and part self-defense.
However, when Asher ran over Emily Sinclair in the second season for trash-talking his recently-deceased father, it was premeditated.
Asher embodied privilege
Four out of the Keating 5 members come from diverse backgrounds. However, Asher could not relate to them when it came to suffering from discrimination or disenfranchisement. While it seemed that he was sincerely trying to become a better person and understand them, at the end of the day, he could just not get over who he was.
This is why in making his final plea to the group, he even told them to turn on Annalise, the on person who was not guilty in all of this and only tried to help them.
As for who killed Asher, you’ll have to wait until How to Get Away With Murder returns in April 2020.
