Escape To The Chateau has become a firm British favourite for Channel 4 with couple Dick Strawbridge and his wife Angel Adoree becoming stars. The series continues to follow the pair as they extend and develop their 19th-century French castle. But what was the cost of purchasing the building in the first place?
How much did Dick they pay for Escape to the Chateau castle?
The couple bought the Château de la Motte-Husson in Martigné-sur-Mayenne in France back in 2016.
At the time, the huge property was in a dilapidated state and needs some serious renovations to make it a home and liveable.
Early series of Escape To The Chateau followed Dick and Angel as they carried out the much-needed repairs on their home.
They had also set themselves a deadline on the initial renovations in the hopes of getting the castle ready for their wedding, which would be attended by 200 guests.
The couple paid around £280,000 for the chateau but since undergoing a huge transformation, their investment has been paying off in spades.
As well as being home to Dick and Angel and their children, the couple has now turned the property into a wedding venue.
However, those hoping to tie the knot there can expect a hefty price tag which comes with such a location.
According to the Mail, it can cost up to £38,000 for each event with the chateau valued at £2million.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, weddings at the chateau have been pushed back but the couple is hoping to welcome guests as some point.
But Dick and Angel have now expanded into other events including days where visitors can see the property and spend time with the couple, who are now celebrities in their own right.
As well as a working garden day, they have something called Fun and Festivities which sees the food and drink flowing along with the guided tour of the property.
The Chateau boasts 45 rooms and 12 acres of parkland with the couple even building a luxurious glamping site on their land.
Along with Escape To the Chateau, the couple also has a spin-off show called Escape To The Chateau DIY.
The site of the chateau was originally the parish of La Motte between the 12th and 14th centuries.
But in 1406, the Husson family, the Seigneurs of Montgiroux, decided to name it Chateau de la Motte Husson.
Through the ages, the castle has passed through various hands including the Baglion family in 1600.

Finally, in the 19th century, the chateau was rebuilt with a square moat.
The house remained in the Baglion family until 1999 when it went to the wife and children of Guy de Baglion de la Dufferie upon his death.
Angel and Dick came across the chateau in 2014 and bought it in 2015 before taking on the ambitious challenge of revamping it.
The pair wrote on their site: “We are fortunate enough to have the original plans and bills for the rebuild.
“With the necessary inflation, the bills show that it would cost the best part of £1million to do the same build today.”
