How long has Malcolm Hebden played Norris Cole?
Malcolm first joined the soap as Norris Cole in March 1994, with his character soon entering a relationship with Angela Hawthorne.
The two of them later split from each other, and Hebden then left the series in 1997.
He returned just two years later 1999 and became a permanent cast member.
It wasn’t until 2000 that his character moved in to a spare room at number three as a lodger of Emily Bishop, and he was then employed to work at the Kabin by Rita Sullivan.
In August 2017 Norris married his friend Mary Taylor so that she could apply for a competition to win tickets to visit her long-lost-son in South Africa, and then in 2018 he decided to leave the street to visit his friend Emily Bishop.
However, Norris was last seen on screen in December 2017, with his character’s exit in January 2018 being marked off-screen. This was due to Malcolm having suffered a heart attack.
Since then he has been mentioned in the soap a number of times, but has not been seen on screen.
He will now be making his return to the soap, and Norris will have big bombshell in store for his wife Mary Taylor.
Norris Cole will only be back on the soap this week, but bosses are hoping to have him return permanently at a later date.
What else has Malcolm Hebden been in?
Although Malcolm is best known for his role as Norris Cole, he made appearances in various other British shows before joining the soap.
His earliest TV roles came in 1972 when he had small parts in Nearest and Dearest, Holly, and Adam Smith.
Hebden then had an ongoing part in ITV’s courtroom drama Crown Court, playing the Clerk of Court between 1972 and 1978.
He then went on to play Jack Blaze in The Spoils of War in 1980, followed by a part as Tom Silvers in the mini-series Spyship.
The next ongoing role he played was as Alec the Barman in the David Jason comedy A Bit of a Do, appearing in nine of the thirteen episodes.
He had two one-time roles in Heartbeat in 1992 and again in 2000, and he also played Bernie Kerrigan in an episode of Where the Heart Is.
Malcolm Hebden also made appearances in Last of the Summer Wine, Lost for Words, Band of Gold and The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.
