Season eight of Game of Thrones reunited Brienne (played by Gwendoline Christie) and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in Winterfell.

Fans of the HBO series were delighted as the two finally had sex and it appeared Jaime had moved on from sister and lover Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).

However, he broke her heart, and fans’ hearts, when he left Winterfell to go to be by Cersei’s side at the end.

He eventually died by Cersei’s side as the Red Keep collapsed above them after Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) burned King’s Landing to the ground.

His death did, however, give Brienne the chance to write his achievements into the White Book in which the members of the Kingsguard’s life memories are recorded.

In the moving scenes in the final ever episode, Brienne wrote his tribute whilst a familiar tune played in the background.

The music in the background has been confirmed as “wedding” music in a huge hint at what their destinies could have been.

Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi has confirmed the music was placed there intentionally.

He told INSIDER: “It’s just a hint of what their relationship — if they had stayed together, if he was still alive — what it could have been. What they could have become. That’s why I put that in there.”

The song has the same melody as that played at Robb Stark (Richard Madden) and Talisa Maegyr’s (Oona Chaplin) secret wedding.

Your imagination goes [into] where this could have gone

Ramin goes on to explain: “I just threw that in there because I thought it would be a subtle nod to their relationship.

“When she sits there and she thinks about him and writes down all the things he had done, the second half is the ‘Honour’ theme, but yeah a big chunk of that [song] is the wedding theme.”

The allusion was spotted by fans at the time, but this is the first time it has been confirmed and the composer added: “It shows the power of music. There were no words spoken, but by putting that in there your imagination goes [into] where this could have gone.

“I wanted people to have that emotion, and have those thoughts. I’m glad it was picked up.”

The pair met in season two when Jaime was being held prisoner by the Starks.

Although resentful and bitter towards Jaime at first and happily calling him Kingslayer, Brienne saw the true Jaime and the two began a romance.

Meanwhile, Sansa Stark star Sophie Turner has revealed if there is a future for the character.

She helped brother Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) become King of Westeros in the series finale, even though there is a clue suggesting he should not have become Bran the Broken.
