NETFLIX has dropped the explosive opening scene of The Umbrella Academy's second season.
A fireball of action kicks off the superhero show's return as Five lands in a war torn US.
Still wearing his trademark school uniform Five (Aidan Gallagher) is thrown into the frame following his time jump which has left the family scattered over a three-year period across the 60s.
Viewers are told the date is November 25, 1963, as Five walks into a scene of complete carnage.
He soon discovers the country has been ripped apart by a nuclear Soviet invasion.
As the fighting intensifies, he's reunited with his Umbrella Academy family – who are clad in black leathers looking every inch the superheroes.
And as is to be expected from the show's quirky humour, a bloody battle kicks off with each of the family members showing off their skills, to the soundtrack of Frank Sinatra's My Way.
In the space of a minute we see Vanya (Ellen Page) control and destroy a missile fired from a tank, Klaus (Robert Sheehan) send dead army officers off to battle and a super-sized Luther (Tom Hopper) save Klaus from an exploding bomb.
There's then the appearance from a beastly Ben (Justin H Min), as Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) and Diego (David Castañeda) put their powers to work.
But with the threat of another doomsday looming, there's a surprise appearance from an elderly Hazel (Cameron Britton) – the hitman hired to get rid of Five in season one.
Much to Five's confusion he offers to help Five escape and explains it's the only to save his family – again.
The Umbrella Academy season 2 will be released on Netflix on Friday, July 31.
The second season consists of 10 hour-long episodes.
