Kathy Beale (played by Gillian Taylforth) has been one of the main EastEnders matriarchs for decades now as the mother of Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) and Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden). However, Kathy could soon find herself locked into a battle with none other than Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) as they both try to keep their sons safe from one another.

EastEnders fans are patiently waiting for Ian Beale’s killer secret to finally be exposed after the death of Denny Rickman (Bleu Landau) earlier this year.

Ian found out Denny had been bullying his son Bobby (Clay Milner Russell) and locked him below deck at the Albert Square boat party.

When the boat crashed – despite Ian getting Denny out of the locked room – the young man drowned.

However, fans were left baffled just a few weeks ago when it was announced that Ian had teamed up with Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean) to buy the Queen Vic from under Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).

Now, all viewers want to know is: When will Ian be exposed? And how on earth will Sharon react when the secret is leaked?

There are only a couple of people who know what Ian did the night of the boat party and they are Dotty Cotton (Milly Zero) and Vinny Panesar (Shiv Jalota).

In upcoming scenes though, Kathy and Suki could go head-to-head to save Ian and Vinny from each other.

On a recent Digital Spy forum, one fan said: “EastEnders has a rich history of having strong and independent females at the centre of their families, with matriarchs such as Peggy, Pat, Lou, Dot, Pauline, Cora & Zainab.

“Who would you say are the current matriarchs on the Square?”

The fan suggested that Suki and Kathy are definitely in the running, yet there hasn’t been a lot of big storylines for either of them recently, but this could be about to change.

When Dotty told Vinny what Ian had done, Vinny encouraged her to expose him, bringing him down once and for all, but she didn’t have any evidence.

What evidence Dotty did have was either deleted or turned out to be non-existent, and so ever since the student has been trying to find a way around it.

However, viewers don’t yet know how Dotty will react when she realises Ian has just taken on the Albert Square pub.

Dotty could enlist Vinny to help bring Ian down once and for all exposing his killer secret to the whole of Watford.

If Ian were to find out there was a plot to take him down, he might finally be forced to own up to what he did – to Kathy.

Kathy has done her best to keep her family together, and even though she isn’t afraid to tell his harsh truths, how would she react if she found out he had been responsible for Denny’s death?

On the other side of the Square, it’s never been a secret that Suki likes to know everything that is going on if it affects her family.

If she were to find out what Ian had done, she could go to confront him, only to be stopped by Kathy – leading to a showdown.

Suki doesn’t have the cleanest conscience, but when it comes to saving her family, it’s very clear she would do whatever it took to bring the perpetrators down.

Suki could use the information she has gathered to keep Ian away from her son, playing him at his own game.

She would need to be careful though; Kathy might not have had any issues with her neighbours in a while, but there is no telling what she would do if one of her own was targeted.

Only time will tell as to when Ian is exposed, but it’s clear that the more people that know, the more the Beale family is at risk.

EastEnders can be streamed on BBC iPlayer and BritBox.
