Stephen Mulhern has managed to one-up his telly rival Declan Donnelly – by roping in his mum to go on his game show.

Dec's mum Anne Donnelly will make a surprise appearance on tomorrow night's In For A Penny after she was caught in the street by Stephen and his team.

But she gets herself in trouble when she flouts the very first rule of the game – not having a penny on her.

In the short teaser clip for Saturday's show, Stephen charges up to Anne with a cameraman and grabs her by the shoulder.

"It's time for our final game, In For a Penny, In For A Grand," he tells the camera.

"You are not going to believe who I have just met… this is Anne, Dec's mum. Literally, this is really Dec's mum. It's not a gag is it, Anne?"

"No!" she laughs.

But when the show presenter asks her to find a penny in her handbag in order to play the game, Anne's unable to stump up the cash.

"Are you serious? Dec's going to go off his nut!" Stephen shouts.

Dec and Anne have a very close relationship, with Dec and his wife Ali Astall giving their daughter Isla her grandmother's middle name.

She's also been involved in Dec's 30-year friendship with Ant McPartlin, who she sees as "like a son".

Anne spoke out in defence of Ant when he first went into rehab in the summer of 2017 to treat his addiction to prescription painkillers, which he'd turned to after a 'botched' knee operation left him in agony.

"When I found out about what he had been going through I was quite upset that he had been in that much pain," Anne said of Ant.

"We didn't know how he was doing until we read about it."

She added: "He has done so well, and we are all so proud of him. We are all so happy with the news. I'm really proud of Ant."

Anne was also at Ant and Dec's ceremony when they received OBEs, and was pictured proudly beaming alongside the co-hosts and Ant's mum Christine Woodhall.
