This year’s series of Dancing on Ice has been like none other before, with a staggering number of celebrities being forced to withdraw from the competition. As a result, ITV has confirmed it will be moving the final for the 2021 series forward by a week, cutting the competition earlier than initially planned.

A spokesperson for ITV told Express.co.uk: “ITV has taken the decision to move the final of Dancing on Ice forward by one week. The competition’s final will now take place on Sunday, March 14.

“Our production team and cast have delivered a fantastic show during incredibly challenging times.

“Continuing to make the best TV for our viewers is our top priority and we look forward to the rest of the series, on air from this Sunday at 6pm.”

The decision comes just days after Jason Donovan became the latest celebrity casualty of the 2021 line-up, having to withdraw following a back injury.

Addressing his departure from the show at the time, Jason said in a statement: “Guys I am devastated to announce that due to this ongoing back issue that occurred on Dancing on Ice about 10 days ago,

“And at the advice of my medical team in the show, unfortunately, I can’t continue in the competition, therefore have to withdraw.

“It’s a nightmare and I’m completely gutted but we put so much work into getting to this point but I have to respect my health and I have to respect my body moving forward and that is my biggest priority.”

Jason joined the likes of Billie Shepherd, Joe-Warren Plant, Rufus Hound and professional skater Hamish Gaman who’ve had to leave their positions early.

Denise Van Outen also had to bow out of the competition after sustaining a shoulder injury in training.

The finale was originally penned to air on ITV on Sunday, March 21 before show bosses decided to cut this series short.

Last week’s episode had already been pushed back to allow contestants time to recover and have a week off following the spat of early withdrawals.

As it stands, the line-up consists of Faye Brookes, Colin Jackson CBE, Sonny Jay, Rebekah Vardy and Lady Leshurr.
