Pop singer Cy Tucker has died at the age of 76 from the coronavirus, it has been reported.

The musician, who was well-known for performing with The Beatles fell ill with Covid-19 on Saturday after performing a gig, his close friend Arthur Kerevan has confirmed.

But sadly, the father-of-three passed away from the virus on Tuesday.

His family paid a tribute to the musician, who described him as ‘our world’.

‘As a family we are devastated at the sudden loss of our husband, father-in-law, grandad, brother and friend who touched so many lives through music,’ they said in a statement.

‘What makes his loss even more heartbreaking is the fact that it could have been so easily avoided had it not been for coronavirus.

‘In less than a week we have gone from having a healthy and energetic man to one who is no longer here,’ they continued to the Liverpool Echo.

His family went on to urge people to follow the government’s advice ‘and do what is necessary so not many families have to experience this nightmare.’

Tributes were paid to Cy from fellow musicians.

Speaking on BBC Radio Merseyside, DJ Frankie Connor said: ‘He was a real powerhouse of a singer and a great guy as well.’

A statement on the Facebook page of the Cavern Club read: ‘We are sad to hear of the passing of Liverpool and Merseybeat legend Cy Tucker.

‘Cy was at the forefront of the Merseybeat sound, playing The Cavern many times with Earl Preston and the TTs.

‘Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this time.’

Tributes have also poured in online from fans.

One commented: ‘Sad news. I remember Cy Tucker from playing in Coopers about 20 years ago. Madness.’

Another added: ‘Gutted to hear that Liverpool music legend CY Tucker has passed away. An absolute gentleman, real lovely fella – a big hit in the 60s on the Merseybeat scene and continued gigging with his boys right through in bars and pubs all over Liverpool.’

A third said: ‘Sad news this morning that a Liverpool music legend Cy Tucker has passed away. A great guy, great musician, and a great sense of humour. We’ve lost one of our very best. R.I.P. Tucker.’
