Corrie bosses are lining up feuding David Platt and Daniel Osbourne to be "the new Ken Barlow and Mike Baldwin"

Viewers have seen pair (played by Jack P Shepherd and Rob Mallard) at loggerheads on The Street.

And producers love the TV duo so much they think their on-going war is here for the long run – just like Ken and Mike in the old days whose run-ins spanned more than 20 years.

Recently viewers have them lock horns after David’s adopted teen lad Max accused Ken’s son and school teacher Daniel of having a fling with pupil Summer Spellman.

Ken’s daughter Tracy couldn’t wait to join the drama by saying about Max, who has ADHD,: “That Platt lad is off his rocker, like the rest of his flaming family.”

Now it looks like a proper Platts Vs Barlows war will be waged.

Executive producer Iain Macleod said: “I was struck with Daniel and David in many scenes – I asked if they’d had many scenes and Jack quipped that he maybe passed him a beer mat.

‘Having these two actors in really big angry and emotional scenes – both quite witty, it’s just dynamite.

“The moment I saw them going at it, I just knew. Why didn’t we do this before?! I don’t want to jinx it by saying it’s like Ken and Mike but it has the potential to go on a long time. I hope it works.”

Macleod has lined up some more shocks and surprises for the new year.

Abi Franklin’s and Imram Habeeb’s baby news following their fling will become “a big buried bomb” that will “turn into a gobsmacking cataclysm”.

Adam Barlow’s ex Lydia will bring a “Fatal Attraction” style nightmare to the soap and threaten his marriage to Sarah Platt.

Tracy and Steve McDonald will be horrified when good girl daughter Amy starts dating “the worst possible boyfriend” – ex-drug dealer Jacob.

He adds: “As joyous as it should be, we finally have a group that bring fun and chemistry. Emma, Gemma, Sean, Jenny, Daisy – it’s a brilliant group.

"We want the Rovers back to what it should be. We need some fun after the last few years. It feels fresh and it feels very fresh."
