Coronation Street viewers were left astonished and baffled after Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) found out the asking price for her dad, Ken’s (William Roache) house was only £120,000. Last night’s episode saw the mother-of-one only willing to pay £105,000 for the property, following Ken’s decision to move to a retirement home with his beau Claudia Colby (Rula Lenska).

The revelation came as a shock to many viewers, who took to Twitter to rave about the huge price difference from Manchester, where the show is based, to London.

One baffled fan tweeted: “120 grand for a house? That’s a bargain”.

A second laughed: “OMG that’s ridiculous, you wouldn’t get anything near that down in London!”

Another shared the same sentiments: “£120,000 for a house in Weatherfield ….? You’d be lucky to get a caravan down here”.

A fourth wrote: “The fact that the ASKING price for Ken’s at least 3 bed house is just £120,000 is just so heartbreaking. London is wild.”

The Sun revealed that property information and housing site Zoopla, found that the average price for a house in Manchester is £203,196, meaning Ken’s house is still well below average.

Meanwhile, down South, prices are very, very different.

In London, the average price is over three times as much, valued at £671,989, so it’s no wonder fans thought Tracy had bagged a bargain.

And, although fans were rooting for Tracy to make the house her own for her and her family, they couldn’t help but feel a little down-trodden as this means we will be waving goodbye to Ken as a regular on the cobbles.

He is not leaving the soap entirely, but viewers will see him settle into his new luxury facility called Still Waters, a decision actor Bill said was hard for Ken to make.

He recently revealed: “Filming that final scene of the episode was very poignant, just Ken and Eccles (his pet dog) and the cobbles.

“We have already started filming at the retirement complex and I am really enjoying it, it always feels different when we film away from the street.

“It seems fitting that Ken makes this decision in the 10,000th episode but it will be strange not filming in number 1 after all this time.”

Elsewhere in Weatherfield, domestic abuser Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) might finally have been rumbled as actress Shelly King, who plays his wife Yasmeen, hints at the possible reasons behind the manipulation.

Over the past few months, viewers have watched in agony as the villain ruins Yasmeen’s life, by controlling her every move.

Fans have been wondering why Geoff is behaving the way he is, and now, speaking on Loose Women, Shelley dropped some hints as to why.

She told the panel: “It’s an age old problem isn’t it, the majority are men on women.

“But there is a percentage of women do the same to men.”

Shelley continued: “Historically I suppose, women have always been, I hate to say it, subjugated by men, because they have been the stronger.

“So that’s a fact of our lives we all have to cope with.”

Will this be the case?

Is age the factor behind Geoff’s vicious temper?

Viewers hope it’ll soon be revealed, as his reign of terror begins to thin quicker than ever.
