Chris Hemsworth is fashioning himself to be the next big action hero. He has shown he can play comedic roles as Thor and in the Ghostbusters remake, while having the muscles to match the most epic action stars. He has a new movie landing on Netflix called Extraction – but what’s it all about?

Extraction is a new blockbuster action movie starring Chris Hemsworth, reuniting him with the Russo Brothers, the pair behind the Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame movies.

They serve as producers on this film, along with Hemsworth himself, who stars along mainly unknown cast members.

The only person in the list of stars who may be familiar is David Harbour, known better to many as Jim Hopper from Stranger Things.

The official synopsis for Extraction reads: “Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is a fearless black market mercenary with nothing left to lose when his skills are solicited to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord.

“But in the murky underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers, an already deadly mission approaches the impossible, forever altering the lives of Rake and the boy.”

The film is described as an “action-packed, edge-of-your-seat thriller” so it seems like it will really be a great ride for action fans.

This also seems to be a departure for Hemsworth from the roles he is used to playing, as though the Avengers movies are full of action, there are no superheroes here.

As well as that, he has played a number of comedy roles while also performing in films such as Snow White and the Huntsman, which is a fantasy film, as well as war film Red Dawn and sports movie Rush, where he played racing driver James Hunt.

Clearly this is another example of how versatile the Aussie star can be, and hopefully it will live up to the incredible standards he has set in his filmmaking thus far.

Hemsworth has described the hardships of filming this movie, taking to Twitter to share how proud he is of the project, despite the gruelling work that went into it.

He tweeted: “Making this film was one of the most exhausting but rewarding experiences I’ve ever had.

“We set out to make the most insane, intense action film and I’m beyond proud of what we’ve achieved.

“Thankful to everyone involved in making this film possible.”
