CHANNEL 5 have confirmed the fate of popular crime drama Dalgleish.

The criminal drama Dalgliesh, that follows detective Adam Dalgliesh, was popular with Channel 5 viewers.


After a successful first and second series, Channel 5 have now announced that the show will be returning.

Filming this year, the thriller will adapt another three novels from P.D. James’ international best-selling murder mysteries.

Based in 1970's England, the series has previously presented the novels over two hour-long episodes.

Producer Sebastian Cardwell has said of the Channel 5 series: "Dalgliesh proved incredibly popular with our viewers, and I’m delighted to be working again with New Pictures to bring to life even more stories from P.D James’ crime novels.”

During the second series, fans of the crime drama criticised aspects of the show, taking to social media to voice their thoughts.

One said: "Accents all over the place in this new series. Hoping they settle down soon."

While another wrote: "I don't reckon he'd have pronounced "harrass" in that way."

The first series of the crime drama aired in 2021 based on the mystery novels by PD James and stars Bertie Carvel as Detective Adam Dalgliesh.

He is best known for his depiction of Suranne Jone's cheating husband Simon Foster in BBC drama Dr Foster.

Despite being set in England, the series was entirely filmed in Northern Ireland.

Channel 5 confirmed that they have received additional funding from Northern Ireland Screen to commission the third series.

Fans of the show have previously shared their excitement for new episodes on social media, with one writing: "Anyone else counting down the days and hours till Dalgliesh The Murder Room airs.

"I’ve been looking forward to seeing it for ages."

A second added: "I am really impressed with the Dalgliesh adaptation on Channel 5."
