This year’s edition of the hit ITV talent show will see a whole host of singers, performers and talented Britons returning for the ultimate showdown of Britain’s Got Talent.

Getting straight to the point on Lorraine today, interviewer Dan Wootton began reeling off the missing names, and questioned the judge on the lack of fan-favourite Susan Boyle.

Taken-aback, Simon admitted he didn’t even know exactly who was set to take part in the new Champions series, but there was a very specific reason for Susan’s absence.

“I mean, truthfully Dan, I didn’t know but I do now,” he said. “Who was or wasn’t going to be on the show.”

“But, Susan I knew about,” Simon clarified, explaining the real reason the huge music star hadn’t decided to take part.

The mogul carried on: “I don’t think she should’ve done it this year.

“She did America’s Got Talent Champions and I hope if this does well, we’ll do it again next year.”

Simon then explained his plans for the future, and hinted they very much include the incredible opera singer.

“Then it becomes an annual event,” he added. “So you’ve got to save some people back [for the next show].”

Elsewhere, it was recently announced Britain’s Got More Talent presenter Stephen Mulhern won’t be returning for the Champions edition this year.

Judge David Walliams also spoke out about the show’s unexpected change today.

Jokingly frustrated with the length of Stephen’s companion show, David declared: “It’s a relief.”

The star teased: “Because when we do the live Britain’s Got Talent shows we are sat for two and a half hours.

“And then just as you think it’s over, in he walks.

“It’s another half-hour of talking to him!” David exclaimed.

The author eventually turned serious about his co-star, and revealed he was actually quite disappointed not to see him every week.

“I miss him backstage,” he said. “Because he’s hilarious and puts you in a happy mood.”

Amanda Holden has also revealed ahead of each show Simon Cowell gives the rest of the judges orders.

“He says ‘I want bad behaviour from you tonight’!” the star laughed.
