Dancing on Ice contestant Brendan Cole has dubbed fellow Strictly pal James Jordan's win on the ice skating series "a shame" as they continue their playful rivalry and friendship.

In an interview with the Daily Star, upcoming DOI contestant Brendan joked that he’s got large shoes to fill after his former Strictly co-star won the series in 2019.

Speaking of his old dancing pal, Brendan, 45, revealed: “It's a shame he did so very well on the show because it doesn't leave a lot of room for movement on that one.”

He added that the pair have a great friendship and enjoy some back-and-forth rivalry as Brendan get’s set for his ice skating debut on Sunday:

"We’ve always had a great friendship and rivalry – we've always been the two clowns of the show actually, you know, always mucking around backstage.

"So we've got a great history and he's been amazing actually, very supportive with anything I've put up online.

"He's always messaged me and told me how well he thinks I'm doing and I think that's great."

Brendan, who is partnered up ice skating pro Vanessa Bauer, also said he’d received heaps of support from his former Strictly pals.

"All the guys from strictly have been fantastic I've had a lot of messages form everybody saying how excited they are for me and the fact that they get to see me doing something different.

"James has been great, he's a good boy and, you know, big shoes [or rather] big skates to fill."

Much like his predecessor James, Brendan is currently the bookies favourite to win the series with a 10/3 odds.

The Buckinghamshire based dancer is reported to be attempting the death-defying headbanger move in week one

Even fans believe his extensive dancing experience will ensure a win.

“Brendan Cole is doing [Dancing on Ice], Brendan Cole has won DoI then," said one fan on Twitter.

Another Dancing On Ice fan said: "If Brendan is doing DOI, then I can guarantee that he will win, even though I'd rather see a female winner next year."

Love Island's Liberty Poole is not far behind, with a 4/1 odds and closely followed by Regan Gascoigne at 5/1.

According to the bookies, the least likely to win are Bez and Sally Dynevor, who both have 33/1 odds.

Brendan was one of the professional dancers on the first 15 series of the show before leaving in 2018.
