Prince Philip 'loved a good argument' says his friend

Charlie Stayt was joined by Rachel Burden as BBC Breakfast dedicated its morning news coverage to the death of Prince Philip. However, BBC viewers weren’t pleased with the male presenters’ attire on the show and took to Twitter to question why Charlie Stayt, sports correspondent Mike Bushell and weather presenter Tomasz Schafernaker weren’t dressed in black.
Rachel opted to wear a black dress for this morning’s show but Charlie was dressed in a navy suit with a dark green tie.
BBC weather presenter Tomasz opted for a matching navy suit and tie while Mike was sporting a dark suit and a purple tie.
There were several reporters covering the Duke of Edinburgh’s death from outside the studio who were dressed in black and other assorted colours.
BBC Breakfast fans weren’t impressed with some of the presenters’ looks and vented their frustration on Twitter.
One wrote: “Why is no one wearing black this morning, where’s the respect #BBCBreakfast.”
“@BBCBreakfast I would have thought today’s presenters would also be In black until at least Monday… Charlie Stayt in Navy everyone else in black,” another remarked.
Someone one else asked: “@BBCBreakfast shouldn’t Mike Bushall and Charlie Stayt be wearing black ties????”
“No black ties? we see blue suits, purple and green ties… Hmmm #BBCBreakfast didn’t get the memo? #HRHPrincePhilip,” a fourth questioned.
While another shared: “If part of national morning is the news presenters being in black. Why are the men on @BBCBreakfast in blue? Am I wrong in thinking they are supposed to be in black?”
A sixth asked: “Why are the male presenters on @BBCBreakfast not wearing black?”
The BBC continued it’s coverage of the loss of the Queen’s husband today following the announcement of the Duke of Edinburgh’s passing yesterday.
BBC One and BBC Two cancelled their schedule of programmes on Friday and the coverage continued this morning.
BBC Breakfast was dedicated to the Prince’s death and was followed by a BBC News Special.
Saturday Kitchen Live aired at its usual time of 10am but was moved to BBC Two.
Meanwhile, the broadcaster has set up a streamline system for complaints in order to allow disgruntled viewers to make their feelings about their “wall-to-wall” coverage of Prince Philip’s death known.
The extensive coverage has led many viewers to lash out at the BBC and the broadcaster has now set up a dedicated page on its website for the complaints.
