Prince Akeem will have Semmi by his side again in “Coming to America 2.”
Deadline confirmed that Arsenio Hall will join Eddie Murphy in the sequel to their 1988 comedy.
Back in April, Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter shared an Instagram photo with Murphy, with the caption: “It’s official! Preliminary fitting for ‘Coming to America 2’ with Prince Akeem, Semmi, and Oscar.”
So we kind of had a clue that Hall was back on board.
In the original film, both actors played multiple characters, including two elderly barbers. Hall also played Reverend Brown and the “Extremely Ugly Girl” who hits on Akeem at a bar.Craig Brewer is directing the sequel, based on a screenplay from “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris. The 1988 film was directed by John Landis.
In the sequel, Akeem learns about a long-lost son and must return to America to meet the unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.
The movie should be out in December 2020.
