Last weekend, the current Strictly Come Dancing series came to an end and saw Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice crowned the winners of the BBC series. The duo excitedly lifted the Glitterball Trophy after beating John Whaite and his dance partner Johannes Radebe in the final.

It was an emotional moment for all, especially judge Anton du Beke who broke down when giving his feedback to both couples.

Anton joined the judging panel this year, replacing Bruno Tonioli following the coronavirus pandemic.

Anton took a break from the dancefloor to join Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood on the panel.

It is unclear whether Bruno will be returning for the 2022 series, or whether Anton will remain a permanent fixture.

However, according to the bookmakers, it is highly likely Anton’s stint as a judge will be short-lived.

Leading bookmaker Coral claim Anton has odds of 1-2 to return as one of the professional dancers on Strictly Come Dancing in 2022.

They went on to predict that Anton is 6-4 to retain his position on the judging panel when the dancing show returns next year.

Coral’s John Hill said: “Our betting suggests Anton will return to the dancefloor on Strictly next year as a dancer.”

He continued: “He has fitted in well on the judging panel; however, we think he may have to wait a little longer for a permanent position on the table.”

The King of Ballroom has been part of the series since its debut episode in 2004.

Despite not knowing whether he will return to the dance floor next year, the 55-year-old admitted he doesn’t see himself ever leaving Strictly.

In a recent interview with Express.co.uk, the dancer joked: “They’d do well getting rid of me, quite frankly.”

The Strictly judge continued: “I know people say, ‘Oh yeah of course you do’, but I genuinely love the show and I always have done.

“I feel very sort of territorial about the show, I feel very protective of the show, I really do.

“I really do love it because it is everything that I do. You know, what else am I going to do in regards to dancing on television?”

Anton went on to say as a dancer Strictly is “every dancer’s dream”.

On Saturday, the judge got rather emotional after watching Rose and Giovanni perform their Couple’s Choice to Symphony by Clean Bandit.

The performance incorporated 10 seconds of silence in a tribute to the deaf community.

Anton struggled to choke back the tears as he admitted he was a “wreck” every time he watched them dance.

He told them: “You see a moment like this a second time, it can sometimes lose its lustre, and all I have written on my page here is ‘just perfect’ and…”

He had to stop himself speaking to compose his emotions and stop himself crying, he exclaimed: “Going again!”
