Alex, 35, has graced the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom and played fiercely on the football pitch but she is set to venture into new territory by becoming the fourth host of A Question of Sport. The BBC presenter will be replacing Sue Barker, 64, as the second female host of the quiz programme after the champion tennis player was relinquished from her duties alongside team captains Phil Tufnell, 54, and Matt Dawson, 47. It was Match of the Day star Gary Lineker, 59, who announced the news on social media where he hit out at critics who might oppose the decision.

In view of his 7.6 million followers, the former professional footballer wrote: “Congratulations and good luck to @AlexScott on being the new host for Question Of Sport.

“Smart, knowledgeable and perfectly qualified for the role. Oh…and if you have a problem with Alex getting the job, you might just be part of the problem.”
