RIO FERDINAND has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson asked him "What the f*** are you wearing?" when he was unveiled at Old Trafford in a white suit.

The defender joined Manchester United from Leeds for around £30million in 2002.

As he was unveiled at the Theatre of Dreams, Ferdinand donned a daring white outfit as he posed for pictures alongside new boss Sir Alex.

Lifting the lid on his special day nearly 20 years on, the 43-year-old told 433: "The manager said to me on this day, he said 'Rio, what the f*** are you wearing?'

"He said to my mum 'what is he… what is this suit? Is he for real with this suit?'

"But I didn't care. I always wear what I want, I don't care anyway."

Describing how he chose his outfit, he added: "I remember exactly where I got it, a place called Proibito in London. All the guys who know fashion will know this place.

"Italian guy said 'listen, this will be a nice suit.'

"To be fair the suit is better in real life. In the pictures it looks worse, trust me I swear you to you right, I'm not joking.

"I've still got the suit at home, I'm going to give it to the museum here, I think. We should do something, bring it to the museum and give it to them.

"But this suit almost became more famous than me. It was like, crazy."

Fergie's barb didn't spoil Ferdinand's day as he became a Red Devil.

On the experience, he continued: "This day was one of the best days. Because when I was young, growing up I wanted to win trophies and to get somewhere to win.

"At West Ham, with all due respect, with Leeds, we weren't quite there. I had the opportunity to come to Man United… an amazing day – all my friends and family were very proud."

Ferdinand went on to make 454 appearances for United before leaving for QPR in 2014.

His thirst for trophies would be adequately quenched – as he scoopedsix Prem titles, two League Cups and the Champions League in 2008.
