World Cup semi-final tickets were on Sunday night changing hands for as much as £4,000 as England fans scrambled to secure a seat for the big match.

Those shelling out for the top-priced tickets at the Yokohama International Stadium are likely to secure better accommodation than the England supporters who were left stranded at Oita railway station after the win over Australia.

A shortage of hotel rooms contributed to disappointing crowds, with almost 10,000 empty seats across England and Wales’ last-eight ties at the Oita Bank Dome.

England’s win over Australia attracted just 36,954 in the 40,000 capacity stadium.

Fans endured difficulties getting away, many having a 90-minute wait for a bus after the game.

Saturday’s mouth-watering clash with the All Blacks is a 66,000 sell-out, however, and with England given an official allocation of just 8,000, the cheapest tickets available on the secondary market on Sunday were £440.
