ROY KEANE has called on Jurgen Klopp to stop making excuses for their struggles this season.

The Reds need to beat arch-rivals Man City today if they're to maintain any hope of mounting a title challenge.

While the defending champions have endured a wretched campaign so far that's been blighted by injuries particularly at the back, Keane believes it's time for them to stop going on about it and focus at the task at hand.

He said: "What we don't want to hear from Liverpool is excuses.

"I think there's been plenty of excuses coming out from Liverpool over the last few weeks. 'City have had extra break', 'fixture pile-up'.

"There've been plenty of excuses coming from the manager.

PLAY DON'T SAY

"Listen we've said from day one they've had injury problems of course that have affected them. But we could say that about Man City.

"Liverpool have done brilliantly the last few years. They need a response today.

"Football always gives you an opportunity to respond.

"Whatever about league titles, they need to turn up today. And as I said, no more excuses."

CITY SURGE

City themselves continue to be without star man Kevin De Bruyne but have benefited from better injury luck this campaign.

The likes of Ilkay Gundogan have really stepped up recently as they've gone on a 14-match winning streak in all competitions after a slow start of their own.

Ahead of this latest clash between the two rivals, Jurgen Klopp mistakenly suggested that The Citizens' surge to the top of the table was partly down to them having a two-week break over the busy New Year's period.

The comment drew the ire of Pep Guardiola who was caught off-guard by it.

He said: “On Sunday when I see Jurgen I’ll say to him: how many weeks or days were we off?

"I’m not irritated. I didn’t expect it. Not from him.

“He knows it’s not true, come on! Nobody in the Premier League has had two weeks off! Everyone knows it.

“Some of the managers do it on purpose but I didn’t expect he would do it."
