REAL MADRID are favourites to sign Manchester City talent Raheem Sterling.

That's according to bookmakers Betfair, who've priced the Spanish giants at 9/1 to clinch Sterling's signature.

The 26-year-old has scored 113 goals and provided 86 assists in 285 appearances for the Manchester club since arriving from Liverpool for £44million in 2015.

He's helped the club to two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and three League Cup successes during his time at the Etihad.

But his future is now under the microscope.

The 26-year-old is no long an automatic starter under manager Pep Guardiola, who's opted for fellow Englishman Phil Foden in recent weeks.

And talks to extend his contract beyond June 2023 have now been shelved for the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign, according to the Daily Star.

That uncertainty is believed to have sparked fresh interest from Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane's side are the leading contenders to be Sterling's next club with Betfair.

The bookmakers have Real at 9/1 to pull off a transfer, with Mauricio Pochettino's Paris Saint-Germain further behind at 12s.

However, Sterling is happy and has over two years remaining on his current contract – giving City the upper-hand in any potential negotiations.

It's thought the Premier League leaders would consider a sale but they'd ask for at least £80m before opening discussions.

The emergence of Foden has presented a problem for Sterling, who's seen a significant reduction in first-team action.

But manager Pep Guardiola insists the pair are more than capable of playing together – despite being in the same starting XI only once in City's last 12 matches.

He said: "Of course they can play together, they play many, many times together.

"We have players like Phil who can play in five positions, Sterling in three. Everyone can play in a few positions, so it depends on them."
