NEWCASTLE’S new owners have identified a potential new transfer specialist to help make the club title contenders, according to reports.

French football news outlet Foot Mercato says former Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Antero Henrique is the name in the frame.

Their report says Henrique remains a free agent after leaving the Ligue 1 giants in 2019.

It adds he is 'one of the targets of Saudi investors', who look set to make their first mark on the club by sacking boss Steve Bruce.

The reportsays Henrique 'had first contacts in recent weeks with representatives of the investment fund.'

It adds the new Toon chiefs have expressed 'their willingness to build a team at Newcastle capable of competing for the Premier League title in the years to come.'

Henrique, 53, was appointed as sporting director at PSG in 2017 and is credited with bringing France star Kylian Mbappe to the club.

The Portuguese had previously held a similar role at Porto, where he brought in the likes of Falcao, James Rodriguez, Alex Sandro, and Pepe.

Porto won the Primeira Liga title seven times and the Europa League during Henrique’s 15-year tenure as sporting director.

A Saudi Arabian investment fund completed its controversial takeover of the Magpies last week as Mike Ashley finally sold up after 14 years.

Joint-owner Amanda Staveley has already promised the Toon Army there will be an influx of “world-class” players as they bid to make the Magpies into a footballing superpower.
