WHAT do you get when you cross a Queen Anne winner, a July Cup cracker, two Breeders’ Cup heroes, a Summer Mile star and a Group 1 juvenile?

The answer is a Sussex Stakes thriller.

But even with all that talent on show, BAAEED is an unbackable red-hot favourite to romp home.

The William Haggas runner is still the world’s top-rated racehorse, despite Aussie star Nature Strip hacking up in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He is unbeaten in eight starts and has been on fire this season with wins in the Lockinge and the Queen Anne last time out.

However short he may be, it is still a fascinating race.

The line-up includes Modern Games, last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner who took the French 2,000 Guineas in May.

Fellow Breeders’ Cup winner Order Of Australia is in there, along with Alcohol Free, the defending champion and right back to her best last time in the July Cup at Newmarket.

Let’s hope for a blasting performance, just as Baaeed put up at the track this time last year when landing the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes by more than six lengths.

The Sussex Stakes is the highlight of six super races on ITV, with coverage getting under way with a middle-distance handicap.

Secret State has obvious claims, but I’ll be having a few quid eachway on SURREY MIST (1.50) for George Baker and Hollie Doyle.

My hope has a fine draw to work from and should be suited by a strong gallop.

He was seventh behind Secret State at Royal Ascot before finding a mile and a quarter too short back at Ascot last time.

I’ve no doubt these are the conditions that will bring out the best in my hope. I fancy him quite strongly!

There’s a terrific big field for the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes for fillies and mares.

Trainer Ed Walker really fancied PRIMO BACIO (2.25) against Prosperous Voyage in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes last time at Newmarket and I suspect connections think she is much better than her fourth of five suggests.

A fast run seven furlongs is right up her street and, from a good draw off a strong gallop, I expect a bold each-way show under Richard Kingscote.

It’s all about young speed in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes.

ROCKET RODNEY (3.00) is going to be hard to stop for George Scott and Danny Muscutt.

The Windsor Castle Stakes runner-up was a decent winner at Sandown last time in Listed company and travels like a horse who will be well suited to this tricky track.

There is a tough field to sort out in the handicap over a mile and a quarter for fillies and mares.

PERIPATETIC (4.10) might be capable of more after never getting going at Salisbury last time.

The Cheveley Park-owned filly is bred for this trip and has shown enough to suggest she might be better than her current mark of 86.

She represents good each-way value for Roger Varian and David Egan.

The coverage on ITV ends with a conditions stakes for youngsters over five furlongs.

It is hard to oppose THE PLATINUM QUEEN (4.45), who has won at Ripon and York and suffered her only defeat when down the field in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot. This is not too tough for the Richard Fahey-trained runner, ridden by Oisin Orr.
