MANCHESTER UNITED reportedly held a “lengthy meeting” with Red Bull's chief Ralf Rangnick over a role at the club after talks were arranged by Ed Woodward.

The Red Devils are looking to employ a technical director or a director of football who would take charge of their transfer recruitment.

And the 61-year-old German appears to have been sounded out for the role, which has seen United legends Rio Ferdinand and Edwin van der Sar also linked.

Coach Rangnick is currently is currently Red Bull's head of sport and development and oversees the brand's various clubs.

And The Athletic claim that United’s vice-chairman Woodward sent an official from Old Trafford to speak with the chief.

Rangnick has held roles as sporting director of both Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig in recent years.

And when speaking to The Guardian previously, he has already outlined his desire to have great responsibility at United should he ever join them.
