TEMPLEGATE takes on a massive Saturday of racing confident of banging in a few winners.

Read on below for our man's top tips and back a horse by clicking their odds.

VAFORTINO (4.05 Ascot, nap)

He caught the eye with a good second over this trip at Newcastle last time. He showed bits and pieces of form for Joseph O’Brien in Ireland but that was his debut for this yard which does well with new arrivals. Excellent claimer Benoit De La Sayette takes the ride and stall 27 should be an ideal draw.

WALK OF STARS (2.40 Lingfield, nb)

He can take a big step forward from his narrow victory at Newbury on comeback. He still looked pretty green and the winning margin could have been further than a neck. Another nice prize awaits Buick and Appleby.

VERREAUX EAGLE (2.05 Lingfield, treble)

She put in a much improved effort coming back to turf when beaten in a photo at Brighton 11 days ago. She saves her best for this distance and the booking of William Buick catches the eye.

Templegate's complete guide to the ITV races on Saturday

ASCOT

1.45

JUAN DE MONTELBAN has run in much stronger races than this in his career and showed promise on his first start for trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy when a solid fourth at Thirsk last month.

He’ll improve for that outing and has slipped nicely down the weights. This trip suits and he won’t be far away.

Flyin’ Solo wasn’t beaten far in the November Handicap at Donny and landed two big-field handicap wins last season.

He’s higher in the weights now but is lightly raced for his age and could yet improve.

Mascat showed promise when second at Epsom on his return to the level 18 days ago.

Joe Tizzard won’t have many Flat runners but this five-year-old looks on a fair weight.

Screaming Petrus scored on the all-weather last time and it would be no surprise to see him improve for switching to turf.

Trainer David Loughnane is in good form. Duke Of Verona battled well to score at Wolverhampton and stays well. This is a bit tougher but he has more to offer.

Protected Guest is in a purple patch and won easily at Nottingham. He’s up the weights but could nick a place, while Just Hubert ideally wants two miles.

2.20

If AL AASY is anything like fit his class should see him home. This is his best distance and he landed a couple of Group 3 victories last season along with a good second in the Coronation Cup at Epsom.

He won after nine months off in April so the break shouldn’t be an issue.

Third Realm never really built on his Lingfield Trial win ahead of subsequent Derby winner Adayar last season.

He sees out this trip well and is another who has gone well fresh before.

Stowell is a potential big improver for Gosden and Dettori. He won his maiden over this course and distance and came back with a solid third in the John Porter Stakes at Newbury where Frankie didn’t get too animated in the saddle.

There’s likely to be a big step forward from that here.

Something Enticing is solid over 1m2f but this trip may stretch her stamina.

Mandoob has cheekpieces on for the first time and has had a wind op since his disappointing effort here in October. He has a bit to prove now.

3.30

STUNNING BEAUTY looks good in a race where they all have a chance.

She has been tried over various trips in Dubai this Spring but she saves her best for the mile and has dropped nicely down the weights.

Hayley Turner rides Ascot well and can guide her home. Spirit Of The Bay won the last time 3lb claimer William Cox was on board.

She is best over this distance and didn’t run badly when second at Doncaster on her turf comeback.

Serenading has fine form on the all-weather and went close again at Newcastle last time.

If she can repeat that on grass she’d be right in the mix for James Fanshawe.

Rising Star wasn’t beaten far on AW finals day last month and saves her best for this distance.

She’s only 1lb higher than her last win which makes her competitive.

Strawberri progressed nicely last season and sees out this trip well.

Soft ground suits so any rain would be a major boost to her chances.

Auria took a Listed contest in July so has more than enough quality for this company if wound up.

Don’t Tell Claire won over course and distance last season and can’t be ignored from 8lb higher.

4.05

VAFORTINO caught the eye with a good second over this trip at Newcastle last time.

He showed bits and pieces of form for Joseph O’Brien in Ireland but that was his debut for this yard which does well with new arrivals.

Excellent claimer Benoit De La Sayette takes the ride and stall 27 should be an ideal draw.

Alrehb went close at Haydock last time and is only 2lb higher than his last victory.

River Nymph hasn’t done a lot since winning this 12 months ago but he’s back from just 2lb higher so should be competitive again from stall 28.

One Ruler is interesting dropped in trip after a close-up third in a Meydan Group 2 in January.

The way Charlie Appleby’s horses are running he should be right in the mix.

Dark Shift finished last season by winning over this trip and a mile here.

He’s still on a fair weight and goes on any ground. He looks the best of the low-drawn horses.

Fresh was third in a big-field contest here in October and must be respected off the same mark, especially if there’s more rain as he likes it soft.

Chiefofchiefs returned from eight months off with a close-up third at Kempton.

He was fourth in the Wokingham here last season and could hit the frame if the extra furlong isn’t too stretching.

LINGFIELD

2.05

VERREAUX EAGLE put in a much improved effort coming back to turf when beaten in a photo at Brighton 11 days ago.

She saves her best for this distance and the booking of William Buick catches the eye.

Algheed ran well on the all-weather here last time when finding just one too good.

She is off the same mark and has gone well enough both times she’s tackled turf.

Marlay Park hasn’t found his stride yet this season but has gone well over this trip before and has had a little help from the handicapper.

It’s early days for Ex Gratia who won over six furlongs at Southwell in January.

She wasn’t disgraced on his handicap debut and is interesting trying the grass for the first time here.

Ajrad has gone down the weights again after a modest run at Yarmouth latest.

He went close in a similar race to this at Newmarket in September from 6lb higher and a repeat of that would give him every chance.

2.40

WALK OF STARS can take a big step forward from his narrow victory at Newbury on comeback.

He still looked pretty green and the winning margin could have been further than a neck.

Another nice prize awaits Buick and Appleby. United Nations won’t be a pushover after showing lots of promise in Epsom’s trial on comeback.

He was behind another Appleby runner in Nahanni there but didn’t get the best of runs out wide and was gaining at the line.

He will benefit plenty from that experience. Godolphin also run Natural World who battled well to score on debut at Newbury.

This son of Frankel is already proven over a similar trip and can improve.

He has a gap to bridge to his stablemate but looks certain to improve.

Lionel was behind him in that race and is another who will show more today.

Zechariah was outclassed in the Craven on comeback and needs this longer distance to work wonders.

3.15

EMILY DICKINSON was green as grass when getting off the mark by a neck at Naas last month.

She improved with every yard of the 1m2f distance and this daughter of Dubawi should enjoy this extra quarter-mile.

Belt Buckle also looked very inexperienced when striking at Wolverhampton on debut.

She had to make up a lot of ground out wide so that was a decent effort.

This is much tougher but there’s more to come. Mystic Wells clocked a good time when winning a Brighton handicap 11 days ago.

She has bigger fish to fry today but a repeat of that effort would see her on the premises for Classic-winner George Boughey.

Rogue Millennium knew her job well enough when striking on debut at Wetherby and could hit the frame if improving.

Suzy’s Shoes showed promise when third at Newbury but needs a big step forward at this level.

3.50

THUNDER BEAUTY ended last season with a personal best as she went close in a Listed contest at Ascot.

That was over this trip and David O’Meara can conjure more improvement from her with William Buick in the saddle.

Symphony Perfect came back with a solid fifth in the Fred Darling at Newbury and backed that up with a Listed second at Chelmsford.

Moving back up to seven furlongs looks a wise move and she’s a threat.

She Do was slightly better over six furlongs last season as she showed when landing a Newmarket Listed success.

She does stay this far and Roger Varian has made a decent start to the season.

Chocoya was smart over shorter last term including when just pipped by She Do.

She is worth a crack at this level but staying may be an issue.

We didn’t see much of Pearl Glory last season. She has ability but is another who has to prove she gets the trip.

HAYDOCK

3.00

ANNA BUNINA lowered the colours of West Cork in the Scottish Champion Hurdle last month and can confirm that form.

Good claimer Mark McDonagh takes off a handy 5lb which offsets the rise for her Ayr success.

She has lots of pace and won’t mind if there’s a bit of give in the ground.

Luttrell Lad has run just four times over hurdles and has yet to be out of the first two.

He went close at Chepstow and the guaranteed fast pace here should help as he travels so strongly.

Herbiers ran well when beaten just a neck at Cheltenham last time.

He is a thorough stayer and looks capable of taking another step forward.

Cormier was a bit unlucky not to finish closer than seventh in the County Hurdle on his latest run.

He’s 4lb higher than his Kelso win in March and will be competitive.

Sebastopol has been in fine form over fences and runs off his lower hurdles mark here.

He has every chance of hitting the frame over an ideal trip.

N’Golo went close here last time and the handicapper has been fair with a 2lb rise in the weights.

He’s overdue a win but could run into the places.
