Here, SunSport tipster Steve Mullen goes through every one of the runners and reveals his tip.

A PLUS TARD 5

PLUS point. Cracking second in the Cheltenham Gold Cup on last start to cap a season that saw him win the Grade 1 Savills Chase at Leopardstown at his best. He relishes this trip, jumps well, has loads of class and can start the road to Festival glory here.

BRISTOL DE MAI 4

MAI up four it. His past three wins have all been in this race and he’s best when fresh so this is very much his cup final. Ideally he’d like some rain to slow down A Plus Tard but will make another bold bid.

CHATHAM STREET LAD 1

SAD Lad. Top handicapper who landed a Limerick Group 3 last season after a good Cheltenham Festival run. Stays well but needs it softer and looks short of this level.

CLONDAW CASTLE 1

CLON gone. Grade 3 winner at best who was a rusty third in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby last time. Has run well a couple of times at this level without looking like winning. Needs a major step forward.

IMPERIAL AURA 3

AURA floorer. Cheltenham Festival winner who started last season well with an Ascot Grade 2 win before poor efforts when fancied at Kempton and back at the Festival when he was pulled up in the Ryanair. Has preferred shorter trips so far.

NEXT DESTINATION 4

DES res. Progressed well last season and finished with a good second in the National Hunt Chase at the Festival. Grade 1 winner over hurdles so has class and has more to come over fences. Cheekpieces on for the first time too.

ROYALE PAGAILLE 2

ROYALE flush. One blip last season came when outclassed in the Cheltenham Gold Cup but was an easy Peter Marsh Chase here in the mud before that. Thorough stayer who likes the track but ground may be too quick.

WAITING PATIENTLY 3

LONG Wait. Looked destined for the very top when winning an Ascot Grade 1 in 2018 but hasn’t scored since. He has plenty of good form at this level and this trip should suit. Needs his very best to figure.

TEMPLEGATE TIP

A PLUS TARD can start his road to Cheltenham Gold Cup glory by taking the Betfair Chase.

Henry De Bromhead’s star was a good second in the big race last year and should have far too much class for these rivals. He jumps and stays well and will be fit enough to perform on this comeback.

Bristol De Mai has won this three times and is a threat despite ideally wanting the ground a touch softer. Next Destination looks best of the rest after plenty of good chase efforts last season.
