NIKO KOVAC will reportedly be axed by Bayern Munich in the summer regardless over whether he steers the club to a domestic double.

Despite the Bavarian outfit sitting two points clear at the top of the Bundelsiga with one game left, the Croatian has failed to win over the board in Bavaria.

According to Goal, Bayern are ready to wield the axe on the 47-year-old at the end of the season after losing confidence in their former midfielder.

They state that the 1-1 draw with Nurnberg last month proved to the final straw, with a number of the players turning against their mentor.

Kovac impressed when at the helm of Eintracht Frankfurt, but his style of play and tactical nous at Bayern has been questioned.

It is believed that training is monotonous which has led to disharmony in the squad, with FCB prepared to call time on his spell in Munich after just one campaign.

Goal also claim that the club's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge isn't a fan of Kovac, with the manager narrowly avoiding the sack in November.

Bayern only need to avoid defeat against Frankfurt to retain the German top-flight title, while they will face RB Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal final later this month.

But the Champions League exit at the hands of Liverpool in the last-16 highlighted their frailties at the back.

Jose Mourinho has been linked with Bayern should Kovac be sacked, with the Special One recently opening the door to managing in Germany.

While club legend Michael Ballack has backed the former Chelsea gaffer to take charge of Munich, insisting he will bring glamour back to the league.

Another alternative to replace Kovac could be Massimiliano Allgeri, with Juventus announcing he will be leaving at the end of the season.
