ARSENAL have joined the growing list of clubs ready to battle for Sergio Aguero's signature, according to reports.

The Argentine superstar will not be short of options after announcing he is leaving Manchester City on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Manchester United are plotting an audacious move for their rival's record scorer.

Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and his boyhood club Independiente are also involved in the transfer tug-of-war.

But Argentine-based journalist Lucas Scagliola has claimed Arsenal have made their move by making 'contact' with the striker.

Boss Mikel Arteta is still in the process of transforming his squad and wants a new striker to bolster his ranks next season.

Captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is favoured on the left leaving just Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as the club's out-and-out strikers.

The Gunners will be forced to tighten the purse-strings this summer as they look set to miss out on Champions League football unless they win the Europa.

Arteta knows he will face an uphill battle to sign Aguero if his side miss out on Europe's most prestigious competition.

The 32-year-old has won 10 pieces of major silverware at the Etihad but the Champions League has eluded him.

Aguero has bagged an impressive 257 goals in 384 games for Man City.

His injury record may prove a concern for managers having been limited to just four Premier League starts this season.
