Tom Brady is off to another Super Bowl after curious decision

Aaron Rodgers said his future in Green Bay was “uncertain” following Sunday’s loss in the NFC Championship.

“A lot of guys’ futures [are] uncertain, myself included,” Rodgers said after the Packers fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 31-26.

Rodgers has three years remaining on a four-year, $134 million contract, and the Packers would be stuck with a dead-money charge of $31.6 million if he is not on the roster next season.

“He better be back here,” head coach Matt LaFleur said.

So while it is difficult to imagine the Packers trading their franchise quarterback, Sunday was not the first time Rodgers hinted that he could finish his career elsewhere.

The 37-year-old reportedly was unhappy when Green Bay traded up in last year’s draft to select quarterback Jordan Love, as opposed to picking a player who would have more of an immediate impact.

“I still believe in myself and I have a strong desire to play into my 40s,” Rodgers, the Super Bowl XLV MVP, said over the summer. “I’m just not sure how that all works together at this point.”

Last week Rodgers said “my future is a beautiful mystery.”

The Packers’ decision Sunday to kick a field goal on fourth-and-goal, while down eight and in need of a touchdown with 2:05 left in the game, also was a mystery.

Green Bay never got the ball back, losing the conference title game for a second straight season.

“It wasn’t my decision,” a despondent Rodgers said.
