How to solve a problem like Man United?

You could say it’s a ‘nice headache’ for Dream Team bosses to have with so many explosive and high-scoring options to pick from but get your selections wrong and it’s guaranteed frustration.

The Red Devils currently have four of the eight most-selected players in the game and choosing all of them would eat up 40% of your total budget!

It would also be a high-risk strategy to overload on too many players from the same club as just two negative results could pull the carpet out from under you.

So we’re taking a closer look at which of Old Trafford’s superstars are worth a coveted spot in your XI.

Unsurprisingly, Bruno Fernandes (£6.5m) is the most popular of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad heading into the 2021/22 campaign.

A whopping 53.7% of gaffers have forked out £6.5m for the Portuguese playmaker, who registered 323 points last season.

Bruno scored 28 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions in 2020/21 with only Harry Kane collecting more points.

The 26-year-old might be a touch expensive while underwhelming at Euro 2020 but he’s fixture-proof, an ever-present and takes penalties in a strengthened United side with encouraging early fixtures.

Luke Shaw (£4.0m) has 43.9% ownership with thousands taking a shine to the left-back after his displays for England.

The 26-year-old is undoubtedly first-choice under Solskjaer and enjoys opening fixtures against Leeds, Southampton, Wolves and Newcastle.

But Dream Team bosses might be underwhelmed by his six assists in 47 matches last year and put off by his 13 yellow cards.

His 138-point haul made him the 11th-most profitable defender last season but he was some way off Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£3.5m), who is equally nailed-on, £0.5m cheaper and has a lower ownership.

Harry Maguire (£4.5m) is the premium pick of Man United’s defence and might be worth paying extra with Raphael Varane set to join him.

The captain earned 184 points and finished the campaign as the fifth-best defender in Dream Team last year.

The centre-back scored twice and produce two assists in the 2020/21 campaign and registered 36 attempts on goal – a record bettered only by Stuart Dallas (£3.0m) – who actually played in midfield for most the season -and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£4.5m).

32.5% of bosses have taken the plunge on new signing Jadon Sancho.

He’s understandably tempting – especially considering his record of 38 goals and 51 assists at Borussia Dortmund.

But it might just be worth waiting to see how he adapts to Premier League life – not all players can make a successful switch – looking at you, Timo Werner (£3.5m)…

Honourable mention should go to striker Edinson Cavani (£4.5m), who managed an astonishing 147 points last term and looks set to start ahead of Antony Martial (£3.0m).
