Bey’s mom has been defending her daughter over ‘Black King’ criticism
Tina has fired back at those who have been criticizing her oldest daughter over the use of African themes and imagery on her visual album Black King. She took to Instagram last month and had something to say to those calling out Bey.
“Those who are criticizing the film (before they even see it) saying it’s unauthentic, upset that B doesn’t actually go to Africa or say that Bey is simply using African cultures for gain are wrong,” Knowles wrote in one post.
In another, she noted that Beyoncé makes less money “with her Afrocentric content” doing so out of her own interest in the subject. Tina also said that Beyoncé “studied African costumes” and worked with “actual African dancers, filmmakers, [and] directors.”
Tina added that those criticizing her daughter should “stop being a social media terrorist to the wrong people,” and redirect their efforts toward critiquing and tearing down “the systems that hurt and suppress us.”
She concluded her posts by stating that Beyoncé “has a right to her heritage as well as anyone else in the world.”
