Buckingham Palace announced on Friday 7 February the highly anticipated wedding date of Princess Beatrice, 31 to property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 37, as May 29, and a royal expert and commentator revealed that the wedding birds were allowed a special request that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were not for their royal wedding day – what was the special request?

Princess Beatrice’s big day is expected to be more low key than the string of lavish royal weddings Britain has seen in recent years.

The wedding is likely to be a private affair and Buckingham Palace confirmed that it will not be broadcast on TV.

However, unlike Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s big day in 2018, Beatrice will have a very special element to her wedding.

Carly Kimblys, Royal Family commentator, exclusively told Express.co.uk that Princess Beatrice and Edo will have a special reception.

She said: “Princess Beatrice and Edoardo have been granted special permission by the Queen to host their wedding reception at Buckingham Palace.

“Even Prince Harry and Meghan were not allowed this privilege.”

While sister, Princess Eugenie and cousin, Prince Harry’s weddings were huge national events, neither of them had a Buckingham Palace reception.

Meghan and Harry had their reception at Frogmore House following the ceremony at St George’s.

Whilst Eugenie hosted her reception at Windsor Castle.

The expert revealed that recently, only one other royal couple has been granted such a privilege.

Carly said: “Kate and William were the last royal couple to be granted such an honour.”

The Queen’s decision to host Beatrice’s wedding reception at the Palace has been interpreted to be a nod of support to Prince Andrew’s daughter during a difficult time for the York Family.

The scandal surrounding the Duke of York’s friendship with deceased paedophile Jeffrey Epstein has refused to go away despite Andrew’s withdrawal from official duties before Christmas.

The Duke stepped back “for the foreseeable future” following a misjudged interview about his links to the disgraced billionaire.

Princess Beatrice’s wedding plans have reportedly been overshadowed by news about her father which is said to have informed her decision to have a small ceremony.

Buckingham Palace did confirm, however, that Andrew will still walk Beatrice down the aisle despite the ongoing scandal.

Princess Beatrice is expected to have up to 150 guests at her wedding and royal family members are bound to be among them.

As well as her mother Sarah Ferguson, sister Princess Eugenie and father Prince Andrew, the Queen and Prince Philip are also expected to attend.

While Prince Philip has not been a regular at royal events since his retirement in 2017, he has made an exception for recent royal weddings.

Younger members of the Royal Family, including Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and their three children are also expected to be at the big day.

With rumours suggesting that the Cambridge children will play a special role during her wedding.

In recent years Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William’s two eldest children – Prince George, six, and Princess Charlotte, four, have held key roles at a string of royal weddings.

Their youngest Prince Louis will be two by the time the next royal wedding comes around and the toddler may also be deemed old enough to be part of Beatrice’s bridal party.

According to the bookies, Princess Charlotte is the most likely young royal to be picked as Beatrice’s bridesmaid.

However, a question mark still hangs over the attendance of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as their continues withdrawal from the Royal Family makes it unclear if they will make it to the family gathering.
