“The honeymoon’s over,” or so the saying goes. But whathappens in a marriage when the honeymoon period never even happens?

For Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, that was the unfortunate reality of their circumstances thanks to their elevated status in society. Though the Duke of Sussex is currently sixth in line for the throne and unlikely ever to see it, he’s still an extremely popular member of the British royal family. People are obsessed with following his every move.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle had a decent following of her own,plus it was a novelty that Prince Harry was marrying suchan unlikely person. As a bi-racial American divorcee, Meghan Markle was aunique addition to the royal family, to say the least.

Did it hurt their relationship being thrust so violently into the spotlight? Some royal experts say yes.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle never got to enjoy beingmarried

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married on May 19, 2018, and quickly headed out for 2 weeks at an undisclosed location for a literal honeymoon, that much is true. But when it comes to those magical early stages of marriage known as the “honeymoon period,” these two were shortchanged.

It has a lot to do with all the media attention they’ve been receiving. Harry and Meghan are arguably more popular, or at least as popular, as Prince William and Kate Middleton. Prince Harry is not a huge fan of paparazzi and makes no secret of that. But his disdain doesn’t stop relentless photographers from capturing every move the Duke and Duchess of Sussex make. Now that they have a new baby together, the fixation is even more intense.

From meeting with Archbishop Desmond Tutu to joining ‘Waves for Change’ on Monwabisi Beach, the South Africa programme will be educational and inspiring. The Duke is especially proud to continue the legacy left by his mother with her work in Angola as he joins Halo Trust again in an effort to rid the world of landmines. HRH will also travel to Malawi where he will check in on the British Army’s partnership with African Parks and will be working on the ground supporting local communities. The Duke is particularly proud to be able to deliver an exciting new initiative, a Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy three-country partnership which he designed and consulted with Governments in Namibia, Botswana and Angola to protect forest and wildlife corridors around the Okavango Delta. The Duchess will be working with local organisations to promote women and girls’ health and education, entrepreneurship and leadership. With such a textured culture and history, Their Royal Highnesses are grateful for the opportunity to connect with those on the ground in Southern Africa and to be inspired by the work being done and learn how they can be better supported. Meghan Markle fondly remembers the early days of theirrelationship

There’s proof that things were better between Prince Harry and MeghanMarkle before royal followers caught wind of their relationship. “Obviously there have been layers attached to how public it [the relationship]has become after we had a good five, six months almost with just privacy, whichwas amazing,” Meghan explained.

Prince Harry said that neitherof them were prepared for the onslaught of attention that occurred aftertaking their relationship public. “I did not have any understanding of justwhat it would be like. I don’t think either of us did,” Meghan said in theinterview. “I tried to warn you as much as possible, but I think both ofus were totally surprised by the reaction after the first five, six months wehad to ourselves,” Prince Harry agreed.

Tonight, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the first of a two game series of the Major League Baseball #LondonSeries, in support of @WeAreInvictusGames. Tonight’s highly anticipated game between the #Yankees and #RedSox took place at London stadium, Olympic Park. The @WeAreInvictusGames, of which His Royal Highness is Founding Patron, has been selected as charity partner for the @MLB 2019 series. The Invictus Games Foundation is the international charity that oversees the development of the Invictus Games, an international adaptive multi-sport event in which wounded, injured or sick armed service personnel and veterans participate. It celebrates the power of sport in recovery and how it can help, physically or psychologically, those suffering from injuries or illness. The word ‘invictus’ means ‘unconquered’ – it embodies the fighting spirit of the competitors. As part of the partnership, the Invictus Games Foundation have a team participating in London’s #Softball60, the social softball series built for the city and targeted to introduce the sport to new audiences and demonstrate that it is an inclusive sport. On this #ArmedForcesDay, tonight’s event was also a chance for Their Royal Highnesses to shine a light on the men and women here in the UK and around the world who have sacrificed so much for their country. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took their ‘honeymoon’ early

There hasn’t been a “normal” moment in the entirety ofPrince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship. But if royal fans could point tothe best time, it’s undoubtedly thoseearly days that the two spent in Botswana getting to know each other beforethe media got wind of their budding romance.

This short honeymoon period was brief but crucial. Now theDuke and Duchess of Sussex are headed back to Africa and can hopefully rekindlethose feelings of happiness and discovery around each other, even if their circumstancesare so different now.
