Nigella Lawson has left fans divided after cooking up a dish from the movie Forrest Gump.

The TV cook queen hailed her Coconut Shrimp meal, but foodies were quick to point out it was one of the meals Benjamin Buford Blue, aka Bubba, reeled off in the Oscar-winning 1994 movie.

Bubba famously encouraged Forrest, played by Tom Hanks, to fish with him and how many things you can make with shrimp.

The recipe for three to four people includes 70g of rice flour, two large eggs, 45g of panko breadcrumbs, 60g of desiccated coconut and 300g of fresh raw peeled king prawns.

However many foodie fans were split  over the dish, with some claiming it ‘looked delicious’ – while others said it didn’t look ‘good.’

During the scene in the Tom Hanks film, the character says: ‘Anyway like I was sayin’, shrimp is the fruit of the sea.

‘You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo.

‘Pan-fried, deep fried, stir-fried.

‘There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich.

‘That’s about it.’

The popularity of the scene prompted the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant chain with 34 across the US and the world, including one that recently closed in London.

It sells its Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimp for £18.

Nigella, 63, said: ‘I have good news to announce.

Many of Nigella’s fans were left split over the recipe, which some said looked ‘very delicious’ – but others suggested they wouldn’t be trying the meal

‘Recipe of the day is Coconut Shrimp.’

One fan, named Douglas, joked: ‘Very delicious’ and shared a meme of the famous Bubba quote.

Sharon Gibson said: ‘My absolute favourite.’

Martin Davies added: ‘Wonderful. Looks like tonight is shrimp night in the Davies household.’

Yet Chris Stetz said: ‘That’s not good news.’

Nigella shared the recipe on her Instagram page, writing that coconut shrimp is ‘an American delicacy’

Nigella shared the recipe on her Instagram page, writing: ‘Coconut shrimp is an American delicacy, and so I prefer to retain native terminology.

‘I don’t know why this should be, but I find it makes them sound much more delectable than prawns, shrimp is such a very good, juicy word.

‘The rice flour I dredge the shrimp in makes the coconut adhere much better than the more usual plain flour.

‘And it gives a crispness and light rustling crunch, in the same way, the panko does, rather than regular breadcrumbs, and both offer a more resilient coating so that the encased shrimp steam succulently within.’
