Formerly a model, Melania met her husband at a party in 1998 and they dated for seven years before tying the knot.

Having been married twice before, Donald was already the father of four children, Donald Jr, 42, Ivanka, Eric, 35, and Tiffany, 26.

Barron Trump was born in March 2006 – just one year after the couple married at a ceremony in Florida.

It is Melania who has reportedly taken the lead in raising their son.

Before Barron was born, Donald spoke about parenting on the Larry King Show.

He said: “Now, I know Melania, I’m not going to be doing the diapers, I’m not going to be making the food, I may never even see the kids.

“She’ll be an unbelievable mother. I’ll be a good father.”

So what parenting style does Melania use?

The First Lady may not follow any conventional parenting rules, Rachel Fitz-Desorgher, baby expert at The Baby Show and author of Your Baby Skin to Skin, explained.

She told Express.co.uk: “We can expect that, like most parents, Melania has her own preferred parenting style which she adapts depending on her mood, how much sleep she had the night before and whether she’s at home or out and about.”

The parenting style used to raise Barron could be unique to her if Donald did let her take the lead.

“If reports are to be believed, she can’t rely on her husband to help much,” Rachel added.

Melania confirmed she was in charge when asked who was the disciplinarian parent on the Mommy Helper Show.

The First Lady replied: “I would say I am because I spend most of the time with him.

“I like to spend as much time as possible with him because children need your attention, they need to see that you are involved and they really want their mummy there.”

Since Donald became President in 2017, Barron has not often appeared out with his parents.

Melania may have kept him out of the limelight to protect his privacy.

Rachel explained: “As if it isn’t bad enough having every outfit and facial expression analysed by the world’s press, she also is trying to navigate parenting her son, Barron, in the full, critical glare of the media.”

Now that Barron has hit his teenage years, the expert revealed why Melania may have had to change her parenting tactics.

She said: “Teenagers crave independence but are not yet quite ready for total freedom – the ability to make good life decisions is still a few years away.

“Tell a teenager to be home by 10 o’clock and you can expect to be met with angry defiance.”

However, it would appear Melania has given Barron more freedom over the years as he will often stay at home while she travels for political events.
