It is one of the world's most iconic dresses, worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962 when she sang "Happy Birthday" to president John F. Kennedy.

And Kim Kardashian sure looked a million dollars as she wore the iconic gown, which sold for $4.8million back in 2016, to pose her heart out on Monday night at her ninth Met Gala.

The stitch-perfect copy of the vintage gown was exactly suited to the Gilded Glamour theme.

The nude skin tight column gown was covered in rhinestones, with a newly bleached blonde Kim emulating Marilyn's famous white fur dropping moment by finishing her look with a white fur shawl draped sexily behind her.

This dress was originally inspired by a Bob Mackie sketch for costume designer Jean-Louis, and was first worn at Madison Square Gardens in front of an audience of 15,000.

It has been on display by Ripley's Believe It or Not! in Orlando since the museum bought it at auction in 2016.

Kim's go-to hairstylist Chris Appleton transformed her signature waist-length jet black hair into a newly platinum blonde look, styling it in a simple slicked-back bun.

Marking their second red carpet event ever together, Kim stepped out with boyfriend Pete Davidson, who beamed next to the stunning star.

The 28 year old comedian opted for head to toe Dior Men as he gazed in awe of Kim, 42, who even admitted she had to lose 16 pounds to fit into the dress.

The reality tv star took to her Instagram to share her excitement for her jaw-dropping look, posting "I am so honored to be wearing the iconic dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 to sing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy.

"It is a stunning skintight gown adorned with more than 6,000 hand-sewn crystals by costumier Jean Louis.

"Thank you Ripley’s Believe It or Not! for giving me the opportunity to debut this evocative piece of fashion history for the first time since the late Marilyn Monroe wore it. I am forever grateful for this moment."

It's hard to believe it's been almost a decade since Kim's first Met Gala appearance, when she made headlines in a floral dress back in 2013 whilst pregnant with North and invited only as Kanye West's plus one – how far she has come!
