Summer 2020’s hottest accessory? A face mask.

As COVID-19 cases continue to spike across America, the CDC and World Health Organization have stressed the importance of face coverings to prevent coronavirus transmission — and now, Hollywood is helping spread the word as well.

On Tuesday, fashion designer Tory Burch launched the #WearADamnMask challenge on Instagram, sharing a selfie clad in a black-and-white paisley mask that matched her silk blouse.

“I am sure you all are seeing what I am seeing, COVID 19 rates in the USA are rising at a truly scary rate. One thing I know for sure is that there’s a very easy way each of us can help, and that’s to #WearaDamnMask whenever we are in public,” her caption began.

“WearaDamnMask because we want to protect ourselves and, even more importantly, we want to protect others. #WearaDamnMask because clearly, the doctors and data say we are not going to beat this pandemic unless we each do our part to get rid of it. #WearaDamnMask because is it not a political issue, it is an issue of saving lives. #WearaDamnMask because it is the only way to keep our most vulnerable safe and the only way to get our economy back on track.”

Burch, 54, called on her celebrity friends to share their own masked selfies and keep the message moving — and many, including Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Tracee Ellis Ross and Kerry Washington — happily obliged, sharing their own printed, patterned and brightly colored takes on the protective accessory along with pleas to stay safe.

I understand masks are inconvenient and uncomfortable. But don’t you feel that it’s worse that businesses are shutting down… jobs are being lost… health care workers are hitting absolute exhaustion. And so many lives have been taken by this virus because we aren’t doing enough. ⠀ ⠀ I really do believe in the basic goodness of people so I know we can all do this ? BUT still, there are many people in our country refusing to take the necessary steps to flatten the curve, and keep each other safe. People seem worried about their “rights being taken away” by being asked to wear a mask. This simple and effective recommendation is being politicized at the expense of peoples’ lives. And it really shouldn’t be a debate ?? ⠀ ⠀ If you care about human life, please… just #wearadamnmask ? and encourage those around you to do the same ❤️
