DEAR DEIDRE: EVEN Viagra doesn’t help me get an erection.

I am 60 and had a heart attack five years ago. I had surgery and now take medication.

Since then, I’ve had trouble getting and keeping an erection.

My GP prescribed Viagra, but it didn’t make a difference – even when I doubled the dose.

My wife, who is 58, has been really patient but I know she finds this difficult.

We have been together for more than 30 years, and always had a very fulfilling and regular sex life.

I can’t bear to think that this intimate part of my life is over for ever and worry how it will affect my marriage.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your erection issues are almost certainly related to your heart condition, but the problem is often worsened by anxiety.

Focus on non-penetrative methods of love making. Talk to your GP to see if there are alternative drugs.

You may also find it helpful to talk to the British Heart Foundation (bhf.org.uk, 0300 330 3311).

My support pack Solving Erection Problems should help too.
