DO you wear glasses or contact lenses?

If so, take a peek at these tips.

Keeping up with tests and prescriptions can be expensive, but I know a few hacks to help you save some cash.

Take my advice on board, and you will soon see the back of big bills for eyewear.

  • EYE UP DEALS: Scout around for offers. You can get ten per cent off your first order at Vision Direct, plus get a “Refer a Friend” coupon.
Your pal will receive ten per cent off their first order, and you will be rewarded with a £5 discount on your next purchase. If you are over 60, Specsavers is offering 25 per cent off a pair of glasses from its £69 range or above.
SAVE: 25 per cent on glasses
  • ON THE BALL: You can almost always save dosh by buying glasses online. Try sites goggles4u.co.uk or budget spex.com. Prices start from as little as £6.96 at goggles4u.co.uk — in comparison, Specsavers’ cheapest option is £25. Plus, budgetspex.com promises to price match any other retailer.
SAVE: At least £18.04 on glasses
  • JOB DONE: Some employers are legally obliged to pay for their staff’s specs. If you work with Display Screen Equipment (DSE), they have to arrange an eye test if you ask for one, and cough up for glasses if you need them exclusively to do your job. Visit hse.gov.uk for more info.
SAVE: Approx £20 on an eye test
  • SEE-K OUT A TRIAL: Thinking of switching to contacts? Boots offers a free assessment and trial, while Vision Express will give you an assessment and five-day tester pack. Fill out a form on Acuvue’s website to receive an e-voucher for a trial.
SAVE: Approx £3 on contact lenses
  • EXTRA-ORDINARY SAVINGS: You may be tempted by pricey add-ons, but is a UV tint or anti-reflection technology really necessary? It sounds self-explanatory, but you should also be sure you need new frames — from £40, Superdrug will fit new lenses into your current ones.
SAVE: At least £40 on add-ons
