David and Victoria Beckham are "set to build a bat hotel” at their sprawling £6million country pile in the Cotswolds.

Former footballer David, 46, and his wife Victoria, 47, have submitted plans for a new outbuilding at their gorgeous retreat in the quaint village of Chipping Norton where eldest son Brooklyn celebrated his 21st birthday.

The couple, who purchased the converted Grade II-listed home farmhouse in 2016, described in the plans how the barn will provide “new roosting and nesting opportunities for bats and birds”.

The former midfielder and fashion designer had to also submit a detailed ecological report to West Oxfordshire County Council when they applied for permission to start construction on the new barn.

It stated how hedgerows will be “strengthened” and linked together to create a “wildlife corridor” for native species to nest.

The report added: “Any new lighting to be introduced should be designed to minimise light spillage and pollution and not directed onto any bird/bat boxes installed.”

Work on the outbuilding will start at the end of August to avoid clashes with the bird nesting season.

The house, where the family spend weekends and school holidays, also features a tennis court for son Romeo, 18, which cost a whopping £30,000, and overlooks the stunning countryside.

Being quite a health-conscious family, the Beckhams also have a plunge pool situated on their sprawling and luscious lawn. Behind Cruz there is also a traditional Estonian sauna that features a steam room, the ultimate place to recoup.

Meanwhile the interior has a rustic yet glamorous feel and is incapsulated by exposed brick walls and dark green-painted cabinets.

The family's countryside kitchen has a very cosy AGA oven that provides heat throughout the long British winters while also given off the traditional yet chic vibe the house excels at. This black AGA doesn't come cheap, costing a roasting £12,785.

The kitchen also has an incredible pizza oven so that the family can make fresh delicious Italian food without having to leave their countryside haven – utter bliss!

David previously shared a snap of himself posting in front of a neon sign which read 'bar'. He captioned the picture, writing: "Home bar Bank Holiday weekend ready," and it looks like he is set for a great one!

The gorgeous home is also the perfect place to entertain celebrity guests with close family friends Gordon and Tana Ramsay along with their children, who stayed at the beautiful pad one summer.
