Beauty experts have been saying it for years – no matter how quick and convenient they may be, you really shouldn’t be using face wipes to cleanse your skin.

As well as not being great for the environment, skincare professionals claim that wipes don’t properly clean your skin, instead merely moving make-up, dirt and dead skin cells around your face. The rubbing motion can also cause unnecessary irritation, too.

And celebrity cosmetic doctor Tijion Esho, who has clinics in London, Newcastle and Dubai, has posted a smart video explaining exactly how ineffective they are at removing make-up – using a tangerine.

In the short Instagram Reels clip, Dr Esho applies a layer of foundation over the skin of the fruit, then attempts to remove it with a wipe. Instead of coming away clean, viewers can see plenty of make-up remaining in the grooves of the tangerine peel. This, Dr Esho explains, represents how make-up can remain clogged in the skin’s pores.

“Why I keep preaching to you all about make-up wipes,” he captions the post.

Dr Esho, who counts celebrities such as Charlotte Crosby and Nicola Adams as clients, then goes on to reveal his recommended method for properly cleansing the skin.

“Double cleanse using a cleanser or micellar water for 60 seconds and try to follow up make-up removal with moisture,” he instructs.

The graphic demonstration clearly impressed the doctor’s 45k followers – and perhaps may have even convinced a few to ditch the wipes for good.

“Wow when you put it like that…” commented one follower.

“I never use make-up wipes since watching your videos,” wrote another.
